OHI Now Providing Obstetrical and Gynecological Services in Manahawkin


OHI’s Manahawkin Health Center

Ocean Health Initiatives (OHI), a federally qualified health center (FQHC), is now offering gynecological services at its Manahawkin Health Center, 333 Haywood Road, Manahawkin, N.J. OHI’s team of providers includes both doctors and women’s health nurse practitioners who work together to ensure the needs of all patients are met.

OHI’s comprehensive women’s gynecological services include annual gynecological exams; minor office procedures; and the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic conditions that affect women’s health; and comprehensive pre-natal services to expectant mothers.

To ensure that patients receive pre-natal care very early during pregnancy, OHI gives free pregnancy testing with same day appointments to all patients who have a positive pregnancy test.

OHI is currently offering OB/GYN services at its sites at 101 Second Street, Lakewood, and 301 Lakehurst Road, Toms River. OHI will be providing OB/GYN in its Manchester site starting in September. OHI Announces Its Summer Hours

OHI, (Ocean Health Initiatives), a federally qualified health center, with offices in Lakewood, Toms River, Manahawkin, and Manchester has announced its 2015 summer hours. Beginning Monday, July 6 through Tuesday, September 8 all sites will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Late night and Saturday appointments will be available again beginning Wednesday, September 9, 2015.OHI SUMMER

OHI to Participate in Stafford Township Founders Day

OHI (Ocean Health Initiatives), a federally qualified health center (FQHC) with offices in Lakewood, Toms River, Lakehurst and Manahawkin, will be joining Stafford Township residents to celebrate Stafford Township Founders Day at Manahawkin Lake Park, Saturday, June 13, 2015, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The public is invited to visit OHI’s tent during Founders Day to get free blood pressure screenings and information about OHI’s medical services for uninsured and underinsured families in Ocean County.

OHI to Hold Events for Health Insurance Open Enrollment

If you need health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace, OHI (Ocean Health Initiatives) a federally qualified health center (FQHC) with locations in Lakewood, Toms River, Manahawkin and Manchester, is offering to help the general public and its patients with enrollment. Appointments are encouraged.pic 1

Open Enrollment for 2015 starts November 15, 2014, but ends February 15, 2015. Beatriz C. Patino, the coordinator of the Outreach and Enrollment Department, Carmen E. Lopez and Sasha Andino, associates, and other qualified staff will answer questions, explain any changes, and help individuals sign up for health insurance.

Bilingual Certified Application Counselors will be available at each of OHI’s four locations on the following dates this November.
• Saturday, November 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Lakewood Health Center, 101 Second Street, Lakewood.
• Tuesday, November 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Manchester Health Center, Lakehurst Circle Center II, 686 Route 70, Lakehurst.
• Wednesday, November 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Toms River Health Center, 301 Lakehurst Road, Toms River.
• Thursday, November 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Manahawkin Health Center, 333 Haywood Road, Manahawkin.

OHI Changing Diabetes Testing Day at Toms River Site

OHI (Ocean Health Initiatives), is changing its diabetes A1c testing day at its Toms River site, 301 Lakehurst Road, Toms River, to Thursday, November 14, from noon to 7:00 p.m. instead of Friday, November 15.

Diabetes testing will be still be given noon to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 13 at 333 Haywood Road, Manahawkin.

Each site will have diabetic supplies and giveaways; and Israel Arroyo, chronic care coordinator for OHI, will present a half-hour educational seminar Managing Your Diabetes at 3:00 p.m. on all testing days. OHI pharmacists Vijay Vohra and Nancy Karroum will be available to discuss diabetic medication management. Most insurances are accepted.

Health Exchange Marketplace Open for Ocean County

OHI (Ocean Health Initiatives), a federally qualified health care center, with locations in Lakewood, Toms River, and Manahawkin, has established a Health Exchange Marketplace Department to assist the public in understanding information about affordable health insurance coverage in advance of the Affordable Care Act, which begins on January 1, 2014.



The department is now made up of Beatriz C. Patino, Brick, the coordinator of the Health Exchange Marketplace, and Carmen E. Lopez, Neptune City, an associate, who will also answer questions and explain any changes. Additionally, they will help individuals sign up for health insurances during the open enrollment period, October through March, and determine what plans would be best for individual situations.

Both Patino and Lopez, who are bilingual, can be reached in the Health Exchange Marketplace Department, Lakewood, at 732-363-6655. They will also assist the public at Toms River and Manahawkin sites, and will be available at many outreach events.

Patino has served as a community health worker in the Central Jersey Health Consortium, Lakewood and North Brunswick. There she performed community outreach for such groups as the VNA, WIC, Women’s Wellness Centers, hospital clinics, OBGYN offices, and several resource centers. Patino earned a B.A. in political science from Kean University in 2005 and anticipates earning her Masters of Social Work Clinical Practice with Families and Children in 2016 from Kean University.

Lopez, a certified medical assistant (CMA), has had wide experience in a multi-physician medical practice and in hospital settings. Before joining the Health Exchange Marketplace, Lopez worked as a CMA at Loyal Source Government Services, Fort McGuire Air Force Base, and at the N.J. Urological Institute, formerly Shore Urology, Eatontown.
