Ocean Health Initiatives, Inc., (OHI), a federally qualified health center with locations in Ocean and Monmouth counties, is hosting additional FREE (MMR) Measles Vaccine Events Thursday, Nov. 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Toms River Health Center, located at 301 Lakehurst Road, and Tuesday, Nov. 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Little Egg Harbor Health Center, located at 798 Route 539, Building 3. No appointment is required.
The Flu Shot will also be provided while supplies last. OHI accepts and works with most insurances. For adult patients without insurance, the regular flu shot costs $20 and the high dose for senior’s costs $40. Through the Vaccines for Children (VFC), a federally funded program, children who do not have insurance, are self-pay patients, or who are recipients of Medicaid Plan A can receive a flu shot at no cost.
Due to the recent outbreak of Measles in Lakewood, OHI is taking a grass roots effort to help the local community and their patient population with these essential vaccines. Last week, OHI vaccinated over 1,000 Lakewood residents, showing the need to expand this initiative. All OHI Health Centers currently carry the MMR and Flu Vaccine.
Anyone that has been exposed or is believed to have symptoms of Measles should mention this when booking an appointment with your provider. This will ensure that proper medical procedures can be taken into effect to protect other patients and the staff from risk.
