Open Enrollment Ends February 15th – Community Forum Will Help Area Residents

ohi-barnabas-jan29flyer (Eng  - Span)2Do you still need health insurance?  Open Enrollment under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) ends February 15, 2015. For those who enroll by this date, coverage can begin as soon as March 1. To help area residents with options, Ocean Health Initiatives (OHI), a federally qualified health care center, and Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, Lakewood, are partnering to present a community forum Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ocean Health Initiatives, 101 Second Street, Lakewood, N.J.

Bilingual Certified Application Counselors (CACs) will be available to describe insurance options under the ACA and help attendees choose a plan that best suits individual and family needs. Experts will also discuss options under Medicaid and Family Care. Qualified staff will also answer questions, explain any changes, and help individuals sign up for health insurance.

OHI to Hold Events for Health Insurance Open Enrollment

If you need health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace, OHI (Ocean Health Initiatives) a federally qualified health center (FQHC) with locations in Lakewood, Toms River, Manahawkin and Manchester, is offering to help the general public and its patients with enrollment. Appointments are encouraged.pic 1

Open Enrollment for 2015 starts November 15, 2014, but ends February 15, 2015. Beatriz C. Patino, the coordinator of the Outreach and Enrollment Department, Carmen E. Lopez and Sasha Andino, associates, and other qualified staff will answer questions, explain any changes, and help individuals sign up for health insurance.

Bilingual Certified Application Counselors will be available at each of OHI’s four locations on the following dates this November.
• Saturday, November 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Lakewood Health Center, 101 Second Street, Lakewood.
• Tuesday, November 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Manchester Health Center, Lakehurst Circle Center II, 686 Route 70, Lakehurst.
• Wednesday, November 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Toms River Health Center, 301 Lakehurst Road, Toms River.
• Thursday, November 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Manahawkin Health Center, 333 Haywood Road, Manahawkin.

OHI to Participate in Mexican Consulate Health Fair 2014

10443213_763602430379205_7878088298222931064_oOcean Health Initiatives (OHI) a federally qualified health center, is partnering with the Mexican Consulate of Philadelphia, to host the health fair “Salud es Movimiento” (Health Is Movement) Saturday, October 18, 2014, at the Lakewood Middle School, 755 Somerset Avenue, in Lakewood, N.J. from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

OHI will be offering blood pressure and glucose screenings, providing dental health material and distributing information about its medical services in Ocean County.

OHI’s outreach and enrollment team for Health Insurance Marketplace will be available with information about upcoming open enrollment and other opportunities for health insurance. The 40-foot, handicapped accessible, mobile medical unit will be parked outside for the glucose testing.

The Mexican Consulate of Philadelphia, which also covers Ocean County, NJ, is hosting the health fair to promote healthy habits for the entire community, including the Mexican and Hispanic communities.

Health Insurance Eligibility is Available for Select Situations

OHI would like to remind you that some individuals and families may still be eligible to enroll in health insurance.  Even though the formal open enrollment period has closed, our Outreach and Enrollment Department is available to assist our patients and the public with any questions about the Health Exchange.

Special Open Enrollment in the Marketplace is available up to 60 days AFTER the following events have occurred:Bigger-Family

  • Those who are recently married
  • Had or adopted a child
  • Had a change in immigration status
  • Have been released from incarceration
  • Received an exemption from the Marketplace but now have a higher income
  • Anyone who lost health insurance because of:

– Leaving or losing a job
– Moving into New Jersey or moving from another part of New Jersey
– Divorce
– Turning 26 years of age and lost coverage on a parents plan
– Lost eligibility for Medicaid or CHIP

These life-changing situations allow people to participate in this special enrollment period; however, it is important to remember that you must enroll within 60 days after the event occurred.

People who can enroll ALL year include:

  • Anyone eligible for Medicaid or have a child who is eligible for CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Plan)
  • A small business owner who wants to offer coverage to employees
  • Native American or Alaskan native
