Ocean Health Initiatives, Inc., (OHI), a federally-qualified health center, will be hosting Well & Kind, a holistic diabetes self-management program designed to help people with type 2 diabetes improve their health by looking at the whole person: body, mind and emotions.
The free program consists of ten, weekly one-hour sessions that offer education on how to better understand your condition and how to improve your health. The program is designed to answer all questions and concerns over the ten-week period. Additional topics that will be discussed during the duration of this program includes lifestyle changes, healthy eating and nutrition counseling, lowering risk of complications and medication management.
This unique program is currently enrolling for interested individuals and will begin on Friday, November 3rd from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The course will be held every Friday during the duration of the ten weeks at the OHI Lakewood Health Center, 101 Second Street, on the third floor. Training materials will be available at no cost and a healthy snack will be provided at each session. The start of the course coincides with National Diabetes Month which is recognized in November and brings awareness to diabetes risk factors and prevention techniques.
Completing all ten sessions will reward participants with a gift card and Certificate of Completion signed by OHI President and CEO Theresa Berger, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Gilbert Fleischer, and co-facilitators Robert Hildebrandt, RDN and Israel Arroyo.
